Feeling overwhelmed? Life spinning out of control?

Greetings!

Do you feel overwhelmed? Is life often spinning out of control? There are so many things you want and need to do, everyone wanting your attention at the same time? Do you sometimes just want to stand still, cover your ears and scream out “STOP!” at the top of your lungs?

Well, the good news is that most people feel this way, and quite a lot of people feel this way most of the time.

Is that the good news? Good news in that you are not the only one going through it, and good news in that by recognising you are overwhelmed, now you can do something about it!

First thing (Guess what, its a list!) - find a quiet place and list down ALL the things that are overwhelming you at the moment. Have a cup of tea or glass of wine handy (glass, not bottle!).

Once you have your list, prioritise things. 1-3. 1 is for the things on your list that are top priority, life or death. 2 is for things that are urgent yet can wait. 3 is for the not so urgent things. Now that you have that done are  you still feeling AS overwhelmed? Hopefully not.

Have a quick look at the number 3s on the list. Do they actually need to be done? Can you delegate to someone else to do them? Can you delay getting them done?

Now to the number 1s, can you delegate? Can you get someone else to help you?  Can you contact anyone to reprioritise or reschedule items on the list, are some of the items able to be moved to number 2s?

The same with the number 2s. Often we become overwhelmed by thinking that everything needs to be done by us, and noone else, right away. By prioritising their importance, we can often see that in fact not everything is as urgent as we first thought. It is about reassessing and often rescheduling, so that we can do the things we can, when we can.
